Area Forecast Discussion
National Weather Service San Francisco CA
657 PM PST Tue Nov 26 2024
.SYNOPSIS...
Issued at 136 PM PST Tue Nov 26 2024
Soggy conditions will persist through the remainder of today into
early Wednesday, especially across the Central Coast. Drier and
cooler air sets in behind a weak cold front pushing south through
our area by early tomorrow morning. Overnight lows will drop into
the 30s for many locations beginning Wednesday night and persisting
into the weekend.
&&
.SHORT TERM...
(This evening through Wednesday)
Issued at 136 PM PST Tue Nov 26 2024
A steady stream of clouds with occasional light rain/drizzle will
persist through the remainder of today and this evening across the
Central Coast, as a cooler and drier airmass works its way south
from NorCal. The North Bay and Bay Area have begun to see more
sunshine mix in with the clouds as the drier air begins to intrude
from the north early this afternoon. Rain totals since sunrise are
all under a tenth of an inch. Coastal ranges across Big Sur and the
Santa Lucia`s may see up to a quarter of an inch of additional
rainfall for the remainder of today and tonight, maybe a few
hundredths for lower lying spots and interior valleys. Overnight
lows tonight will be about 5-10 degrees cooler than what we saw
early this morning. With less cloud cover tomorrow, we`ll see
highs increase only slightly from today, mainly in the low/mid
60s, upper 50s along the coast.
&&
.LONG TERM...
(Wednesday night through next Monday)
Issued at 136 PM PST Tue Nov 26 2024
With drier air and mostly clear skies tomorrow night into early
Thursday morning, expect to see temperatures drop another 3-5
degrees for when you wake up Thanksgiving morning. Some areas that
saw heavy rain over the past week may see some radiational fog
develop as well. With the colder temperatures, also likely to see
frost develop across lower lying interior locations and valleys.
Synoptic scale ridging begins to gradually build across the west
over the weekend, however a weak upper low attempts to undercut the
ridge near our latitude and points south on Saturday afternoon
keeping highs on Saturday similar to Friday. By Sunday,
incremental H50 increases and thickness values take hold under
mostly sunny skies, resulting in gradual warming for the end of
the weekend into the beginning of next week.

.AVIATION...
(00Z TAFS)
Issued at 328 PM PST Tue Nov 26 2024
Split weather N to S for terminals this evening with VFR and
gradual clearing/thinning for all terminals except Monterey Bay

VCSH/CIGS streaming into KMRY/KSNS. This will persist through 06Z.
Ample low level moisture will lead to some Fog across the N Bay
tonight, much less conf for immediate SF Bay. VFR all terminals
mid morning Wednesday and afternoon.
Vicinity of SFO...Lingering clouds and light NW flow will
persist through 06-09Z before shifting NE with overall clearing.

Monterey Bay Terminals...VFR with possible MVFR as offshore
showers track eastward toward Monterey Bay terminals. CIGS around
1k feet possible overnight. VFR expected on Wednesday.
